THE GREAT S/4 HANA MIGRATION UNDER THE MAGNIFYING GLASS
SAP Customers are asking - Should we stay or should we go?

At the annual SAPPHIRE conference in May, SAP stated the rate of adoption for S/4 HANA was far greater than SAP anticipated. As exemplified by Bill McDermott, more than 3,000 customers have migrated to S/4HANA applications suite – making it the fastest-growing product. Based on this demand, Mr. McDermott committed to providing detailed product roadmaps, industry-specific migration paths and a value assurance guarantee.

HANA Migration.jpg

At the annual SAPPHIRE conference in May, SAP stated the rate of adoption for S/4 HANA was far greater than SAP anticipated. As exemplified by Bill McDermott, more than 3,000 customers have migrated to S/4HANA applications suite – making it the fastest-growing product. Based on this demand, Mr. McDermott committed to providing detailed product roadmaps, industry-specific migration paths and a value assurance guarantee.

These guidelines and assurance are well received, however, in a migration from the old Business Suite to S/4HANA, customers want more guidance as to internal roles – who does what. C-level executives want assurance that the investments would yield economic benefits.

First – what is S/4 HANA?  It is the next generation business suite built on SAP HANA with a new code line, user experience, data model and data storage options. Moving from SAP ERP 6.0 will require a database migration to SAP HANA, combined with a move to the latest enhancement package and deployment of the exchange innovation – meaning the current code is replaced by the new one.

Second – what is our approach?  Customers should use an incremental approach. First, technical migration will move you into SAP S/4HANA as a foundation, and then you can innovate on top of reinvented core processes.

Third – how is this beneficial to your business?  Businesses today are wrestling with new technology trends.  The best example is SAP S/4HANA Finance.  S/4HANA Finance drives massive IT simplification by removing replications and aggregates. This ensures no redundancies thereby providing one common view of information across finance delivering consistency, predictability and the ability to analyze your business strategic options. Traditional quarter close is approximately 15 days – with S/4HANA Finance, it can be done in under 10 days.

In summary, the goal is to have a “networked” economy driving your business.   In this complex technological world, SAP S/4HANA is the great simplifier and the best technology for SAP’s vision of the perfect enterprise.

Answerthink will support our customers with a pre-defined migration and system conversion. Let us show you the path and how your SAP environment can Run Simple. And yes, you should go!

analytics

traffic lightImagine you are sitting at a traffic light on your way home from work.  You’re in a hurry only to sit and wait to make a left turn.  The light changes – maybe you will make it through this time.

The next time you sit at the red light waiting to make a left turn, figure out your wait time for that day.  Now figure out how much time you spent at red lights for one year!

One smart third party logistics company realized the amount of time and fuel wasted at stop lights where routes depended on left turns. They thought, how can we maximize routes for optimal efficiency? The solution became obvious - analyze then map routes utilizing right turn on red opportunities thus saving time, increasing the number of deliveries per route, saving fuel, reducing accidents and improving on-time delivery - which dramatically increased revenue while improving customer satisfaction.

This is just one example of how companies are driving better business outcomes by leveraging their enterprise data through the use of analytics.

In the digital economy, data comes from many sources, not just technology. Companies of all sizes are realizing that in order to remain competitive and flourish, it is inevitable that they must adopt, grow and improve upon their analytics strategies and capabilities.

Yet, many organizations are still hesitant to implement a strategy.  It can seem daunting.  Will the investment be effective?  Will it scale?  How quickly will I see quantifiable value out of both our structured & un-structured data?  We don’t have the in-house skills.  We don’t have the time and resources.  Where do we start?  The good news is - It can be as easy as a right turn!

Now imagine all analytics capabilities for all users in one solution.  You’d have the ability to analyze, plan, predict and collaborate through one platform for all users – whether in the boardroom, the office, in front of a customer or on the shop floor.   Imagine no more – that solution is SAP® BusinessObjects Cloud.

SAP® BusinessObjects Cloud, launched as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering, is natively built on the SAP® HANA Cloud Platform providing all enterprise analytics capabilities - BI, Planning, Predictive, and the forthcoming GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance), in a single platform with a single user interface. Four areas form the key components of SAP® BusinessObjects Cloud.

SAP Digital Boardroom

Now any stakeholder can now collect, analyze, simulate, plan, predict, and report using any data (structured & un-structured) on one screen, at any time, without waiting for support or having to buy, implement, or switch among multiple point solutions all at the lowest possible price point.

With no operating system constraints and nothing to download or setup while consolidating analytics in the cloud–

  • Executives and workers are empowered to make better decisions quickly;
  • Business analysts can focus on data discovery and visualization;
  • Business operations people can create reports and plans;
  • Finance professionals can develop forecasts;
  • Users can generate predictive forecasts and insights;
  • Managers can see key metrics in a dashboard; or

Grow Your Business

containWhat is guided buying? Guided buying is designed to make it easy for requisitioners to buy items from pre-approved suppliers at pre-negotiated prices.

A procurement department spends an insurmountable time reconciling requisitions and purchase orders for invoices received. In an effort to alleviate this time consuming process while gaining cost control, procurement now educates the requisitioner by following a pre-defined buying path through contracted suppliers – or what is known as “Guided Buying”

What are the benefits of guided buying?

  • Increased ability to deliver savings negotiated by strategic sourcing;
  • Improved stakeholder satisfaction for buying goods and services; and
  • Streamlined processes eliminate non-value, adding activities for requisitioning.

Typically, a $1 billion company will spend about $400 million on purchased materials.  According to the Hackett Buyers Guide Report, produced by The Hackett Group, a company could save as much as $600 thousand annually by achieving world-class procurement performance.

Hackett cited three components enabling world-class performance, which are:

  • Enable self-service buying on any platform: desktop, tablet or mobile devices;
  • Deploy easy-to-use tools and applications; and
  • Build a base of approved, trusted suppliers.

What is EzRequisition®? Answerthink has developed EzRequisition®, an SAP certified Fiori app which provides mobile self-service procurement and guided buying, and possibly save your company money.

EzRequsition is easy to use and operates from any platform. This simple, intuitive, role-based app provides the power and versatility for the professional or casual user with key features that include:

  • Ability to search and filter approved products to requisition;
  • Automatically determine and apply the appropriate vendor;
  • determine and validate department and cost center allocations; and
  • Provide a catalog-to-cart buying experience for casual buyers.

This procurement app addresses the increased expectation of pushing relevant buying activities to the users that need them, buyers in the field and front-line. Fiori mobility simplifies requisitioning for the “casual” buyer of indirect items, such as office supplies and MRO products and services. Also, you get the discipline and capabilities of your professional procurement organization to ensure buying at the pre-negotiated prices.

Our clients view procurement as a function where they can realize the benefits and ROI of innovation. In designing our apps, we build on the research of The Hackett Group's Best Practices for Procurement and implement key easy-to-use principles in Guided Buying. Deploy EzRequisition in your current ECC environment or use it to lead your migration to the new generation of ERP, S/4 HANA.

How can EzRequisition streamline guided buying for you? Answerthink’s Supply Chain and Technology specialists can assist your company to assess and deploy EzRequisition or comparable processes. Tom Reul

snowbirdTom Reul has been with Answerthink as an SAP Senior Account Executive for over 15 years. As a resident of Rhode Island, his sales territory encompassed the New England states. Over time the territory grew with a strange pattern – the New England states and the southern US east coast.

With a culturally diversified territory, Tom discovered that the best way to be successful was through due diligence. He spends many hours learning about a prospective client – their operation, IT landscape, and specifically, the challenges affecting their industry and their business. With this analysis, he is able to craft an SAP/Answerthink solution based on industry best practices tailored to their specific needs.

Tom managed his territory with great ease, and the constant boarding of planes did not seem to inhibit his sales ability – but then the winter of 2014 hit. The snow fell almost every other day. Flights were cancelled and meetings needed to be rescheduled.

On one of his trips to Florida, he realized that the most effective way to cover his territory and play golf the entire year, a long time passion, was to split his time between Florida and Rhode Island. He purchased a condo in the Palm Beach area as it had everything needed – great real estate value, quick access to a major airport and most importantly, challenging golf courses.

When he is not working, he spends his spare time divided between his son, TJ, a recent graduate of the University of Miami and his daughter, Katelyn, who is currently attending the college in Brooklyn, NY. Tom is building a father/son rivalry on the golf course and looks forward to Katelyn’s visits to RI and Florida.

airplaneTom has mastered the art of being a “snowbird” during a rewarding sales career.  He spends the winters in Florida and the summers in Rhode Island. He has a strong alliance with his customers; and if one needs his dedicated attention, Tom will be on a plane with no hesitation.
